about
evermind media
Evermind Media is a collaboration between Wouter Verhoeven and the Plum Village community. Our aspiration is to translate the teachings of Thich Nhat Hanh into film and share them online.
We make mindful films that bring you home. Many of us in the world of today are running and restless. We run in our minds, creating a culture of hurry and pressure. Our hearts do not know peace. It is time to stop running and to come back home to ourselves, to come home in every step and in every breath, or as Thich Nhat Hanh says:
“If we are peaceful, if we are happy, we can smile and blossom like a flower, and everyone in our family, our entire society will benefit from our peace.”

thich nhat hanh
zen master, author & peace activist
Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh, or Thay as his students affectionately call him (´Thay´ means teacher in Vietnamese), was born in 1926 in Hue, Central Vietnam. Already at an early age Thich Nhat Hanh felt the aspiration to become a monk.
Today he is a global spiritual leader, poet and peace activist, revered around the world for his powerful teachings and bestselling writings on mindfulness and peace. He is the man Martin Luther King called “An Apostle of peace and nonviolence”. The key teaching of Thich Nhat Hanh, is that, through mindfulness, we can learn to come home to ourselves and to live happily in the present moment, the only way to truly develop peace, both in one’s self and in the world.
The mindfulness of Thich Nhat Hanh is deeply compassionate and engaging, loving all there is, without discrimination.
plum village
mindfulness practice centers
Living in exile from his beloved Vietnam, in 1982 Thich Nhat Hanh founded the mindfulness practice centre Plum Village in rural Dordogne, in the South West of France.
Plum Village is the realisation of Thay’s dream of building a Beloved Community: creating a healthy, nourishing environment where people can learn the art of living in harmony with one another and with the Earth.
Cherishing the same dream for the world, Thay and his monastic community have always been travelling, organising retreats, sharing the practice of mindfulness with countless people and communities, cultivating peace, harmony and happiness wherever they go.
Today there are nine flourishing monasteries and practice centres like Plum Village in Europe, Asia and North America.
wouter verhoeven
mindful film maker
I love the Plum Village community, all it stands for and all it does. For me Thich Nhat Hanh is the most humane human being I have met in my life. And as we need examples, inspiration and lived wisdom in our challenging times, I feel a deep aspiration to translate his teachings into film and share them online.
In 2011, after a painful relational break up, I read a book written by Thich Nhat Hanh. From the first pages on I was struck by the depth and the simplicity of the teachings on mindfulness. I could only think: the whole world should know about this. And as a film maker, I might be able to help spreading the teachings.
Two years later I got in contact with the Plum Village community, I attended my first retreat, and soon after the monastic community invited me to film a retreat for 1300 educators in Canada. Five months later the film was ready. After watching it Thay said:
“This is the best film about what happens in our retreats”. And he added: “We should make more films like these, in different languages.”
The seed of Evermind Media was planted.
