who is standing up to protect the earth?

In the film Dear Earth, we follow Karim, Satya and Vishal, three climate activists of the Extinction Rebellion movement in England during a siege of London’s administrative and business district. In all their humanity, they show what it means to be committed to the future of all life, leading to their non-violent actions to protect the Earth. How far are they willing to go?

They glue themselves to buildings, the asphalt and each other. They block roads and
squares, shutting down London’s centre for weeks on end. In some cases, they even sacrifice their glorious careers. A few hours before a new major action, Karim shares:
“We need to put our liberty on the line, the things we hold dear, our freedoms, to really communicate how serious the crisis we are in is.”
With love and grief they push forward, defying rain, big police forces, and fatigue … There is only one Earth.

Non-violent civil disobedience is at the heart of Extinction Rebellion’s strategy to fight for change. Some Extinction Rebellion activists, including Karim and Vishal, have been trained in mindfulness and peaceful activism in Plum Village, France.

Recorded in October 2019 and February 2020, in London and Aylesburry, UK.

Dear Earth is co-produced by Dutch broadcasting organisation KRO-NCRV. The film is English spoken.  Also available with English, French and Dutch subtitles.
