The Spirit of the Practice: an orientation by Brother Phap Dung

Teaching

An Orientation

This is a short version of the complete orientation by Brother Phap Dung, which is available under the title ‘Learning to Love Ourselves’.

During the Rains retreat every Friday evening, an orientation is given to new arrivals at Deer Park monastery. Instead of focusing on the technical part of the various mindfulness practices which are practiced in the monastery, senior Dharma teacher Brother Phap Dung shares in this video more about the spirit of the practice.

The richest fruits that we get from the practice, he says, are insights. In a space of slowing down, silence and non-judgement, we will come to see and to understand who we really are. We will start to love ourselves more, and doing so, we simply will be kinder and more loving persons in the world outside too.

When you practice mindfulness at home, you are invited to find a sangha, a local community of practitioners. Because together the practice is easier to sustain. And at the same time more powerful and more joyful. You can find a local sangha at: plumvillage.org/community/international-sangha-directory/

We hope this orientation supports you in your practice at home, or with your sangha.

Enjoy your practice!
